As many of you know, I’m getting married in October. That’s why I couldn’t be more excited to participate in the virtual blog tour for talented writer, Sarah Copeland, as she celebrates the release of The Newlywed Cookbook. This cookbook is anything but ordinary. The beautiful photos and whimsical recipes could attract even the most kitchen-shy. For a sneak peek into Sarah’s world, check out this adorable music video which, ironically, features the musical talents of Holley Maher, the lovely lady who designed my blog!
My fiance, Aaron, and I got these trivia books for Christmas to see who knew the other person best. We put a prize on the line (he would have to wash my car and I would have to cook him breakfast in bed), and I couldn’t believe it when I lost! Pancakes (from a box – I cheated) were on the menu, so I chose to redeem myself by whipping up the Multigrain Pancakes with Chocolate Shavings from The Newlywed Cookbook. These were super easy and super fabulous! Not to mention healthy (multigrains) and happy (chocolate).
Mix dry and wet ingredients. Real butter and buttermilk here, folks.
Chop high quality semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate. Shavings are more glamorous than chips.
Add 1/4 cup batter to warm pan or griddle. Add chocolate shavings then flip. Cook until golden.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and pure maple syrup. Savor every moment.
With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, why not forgo dinner reservations and cook for (or better yet, with) your loved one? I have to admit that Aaron and I are still going to try out Julian, since it’s been on my list for awhile, but you can do both! (oh, and I have to mention he bought me tickets to go see Daniel Tosh live in KC). The recipes in The Newlywed Cookbook are perfect for date night, so I am giving away one copy to one of my lucky readers. I have lots of just married/engaged friends, and you could even use this cookbook as the perfect wedding gift if you do too. All you have to do is 1) Follow me on Twitter 2) Share this blog post on Twitter and 3) leave a comment here letting me know and share your thoughts on how food helps you connect with loved ones. If you don’t have Twitter, just skip to step 3!
Also, be sure to check out all the other food bloggers participating in this Valentine’s Day virtual tour. After looking at these posts, I better stock my wedding registry with pretty plates and entertaining pieces to make my food photography a little more fabulous!
Giveaway open until February 16th 11:59 PM EST. Winner will be chosen by random.org and notified via email.

Ah shoot! I don’t have twitter so I can’t qualify but those pancakes look amazing! I always get up extra early and sneak to the kitchen to make Jonny banana crunch pancakes (whole grain with banana slices and granola) for Valentines day! One of our wedding gifts were heart shaped pancake rings. Can’t wait to try them out this year
As one who likes to go out to eat and also as one who has gone out to eat alone, it’s always much more fun when you have someone to share and enjoy the meal with! Good food + good wine = the perfect complements to good company and good conversation. Plus, it’s a double bonus – you can eat off your companion’s plate and try TWO meals instead of just one!
No twitter for me, but I LOVE TO COOK! I always love trying new recipes and know that I would love The Newlywed Cookbook too:) And I absolutely love your blog, you are such an inspiration Katie!
For a few years in grad school, I lived in a sixty person co-op, and my workshift was always to head the dinner making team one day per week. I met some of my best friends this way – both during the cooking shift and sitting down to eat with everyone every night. I recently graduated, got married, and moved out. I’d love a copy of the Newlywed Cookbook to help me get used to cooking for two!
Katie! What a great blog you have! As a newlywed I can attest to cooking for two isn’t always easy but we love to cook and any inspiration from the “Newlywed Cookbook” I know would help us continue to share the love through food!
